Why is "To Kill A Mockingbird" a bestseller for more than 50 yrs?

I'm 13, and I hate reading (but I'm one of the best readers) but I started reading this book yesterday and I'm hooked :] im not finished yet.

Did you like it?
and im reading it on my own free will because i saw it on my teachers desk and i always wondered why it was so popular.
