Why is Tiger Woods driving into a tree INTERNATIONAL HEADLINE NEWS?

Is it because he earns $100 million a year that entitles this incredibly non eventful and trivially boring piece of information about him having a row with his wife and driving into a tree and getting a little bash on his nose being international headline news?

What the bloody hell is that all about?! Who cares? WHY IS THE INTERNATIONAL NEWS giving this so much airtime? Am I missing something? Is Tiger Woods the new messiah or something? was I asleep the day they appointed him the new all-knowing god? Will we have to have a national day of mourning next week if his goldfish should tragically and woefully perish and god forbid be found floating on the top of the bowl? Will our children have to take the day off school when he gets a cold? Someone please, enlighten me in the ways of the Tiger...
 
i will agree that the story is getting way more press than it deserves

from what i know of it you have read things into it yet to be determined. it is because the public assumes things about celebrities without any reality to their assumptions that many celebrities attempt to have a private life

perhaps one reason why the story is getting so much coverage is because tiger woods has been more successful than all but two others in his sport. another reason might be he has been more successful than most in keeping his private life private

tiger woods is not the new messiah. he has not been appointed god, but he has been the number one player in the world in his sport longer than any other player in the last 20-30 years or more. it is quite likely that before he retires he will have won more than any other player his sport has ever known

as i said earlier, tiger woods would like the story to go away. it is because of his celebrity that the press is making more of the story than need be. it is because, outside of his sport, his name is known but very little else that the press is making more of the story than need be

and it is because of public response to any celebrity - sports star, rock star, movie star, etc - that the press is making more of the story than need be. if you wish to help the press move on to more important stories then ignore celebrity stories when they occur
 
He is fine so let us stop talking about this. All indications are that the Press caused something
connected to this in the first place.
 
It's because Tiger Woods has been seen as Mr. Squeaky Clean all over the World, and the Olympic Committee wants Tiger to help get Golf as an Olympic Sport for Rio in 2016.

The reason golf survives long hours on TV is that the small number of viewers are very affluent and a perfect target audience for selling. Golf balls, golf bags, retirement homes, and other endorsements litter the airways during play.

And nobody is bigger in sports now than Tiger Woods himself. Just think of the TV revenue and endorsements that the biggest star in the world would bring to the Olympic games.

There is already an Olympic Golf Committee sponsored by the professional golf federation which is pushing for it, and our guess is there is little resistance.

Think of what this means on an international basis if Golf is accepted as an Olympic Sport. Retail Golf sales around the World will explode, not to mention the International Real Estate Market in retirement homes, golf courses, etc.

There's a lot riding on Tiger, because if anyone can get this tough sell, this boring sport as part of the Olympic Games, he can. But, now what?

Woods is an International Star of the First Magnitude.

This story isn't going to go away, espcially since the Woods aren't talking and there is possible Assault With A Deadly Weapon charges looming.
