I'm a graduate teacher who has a short term contract at a special needs school, teaching sport, art, and library. At lunch time, I regularly go outside to have a kick of the football or a shot of basketball with the students who I share a good relationship with.
There is generally some contact while we play sport such as when we are trying to take a mark or when getting the basketball off a student who is dribbling. The contact is sport like and natural yet a particular teacher is saying that i shouldn't be 'participating' with the students, just umpiring. There are a number of teachers who participate with the students at lunch sport though but they all happen to be males. Being a young attractive female teacher, I feel that I am being targetted and bullied somewhat by this particular teacher. And there is another female teacher who i am friends with who works in the same year level as the nasty one, and she's backstabbing me to her. The second teacher seems to be controlled by the nastier one and is also pressurising me to just 'umpire'.
I am a sporty person however and I don't see why it is any different for me to participate in the lunch time sports than it is for the male teachers. I would find it quite boring to just 'watch' and referee since i enjoy the active process of joining in with these special needs kids. They are also learning more when I am playing since they are able to watch and learn by example. I don't know what this stupid teacher's problem is! What should I do?
