why is there so much controversy concerning emo bands?

ok, so if you have ever looked into it, there are many different bands that people consider emo that other people dont agree with (of course). not everybody is going to agree with each other, but theres always this conflict over bands such as-

Escape the Fate
My Chemical Romance
Mayday Parade
etc.

So why is there so much fighting and contrversy?
also, if you had to name an emo band, who would it be?
Im not saying these bands ARE emo, Im saying these are the bands i see some of the most controversy around.
