why is there no video coming from my nvidia geforce 8400 gs video car?

i just bought a new motherboard, psu, cpu, and graphics card. i dont have a monitor so i hooked the card up to the T.V. via "VGA to RCA" and the screen is black.. nothing appears. any advice? thanks
