Why is there no Mercedes-Benz, Lexus, Volvo, or BMW on the IIHS top safety pick list?

It always changes after new vehicles are tested.

Look at Vehicle Ratings and Top Safety Pick for 2009.

You'll see that a few cars like the BMW 3 series, Mercedes C class, Volvo S80 have 2009 top safety pick awards.
 
Volkswagen has four vehicles, but I am surprised that these other top manufacturers do not.
