why is there controversy?

to the same question about the truthfulness of quuantum physics/theory/mechanics (i still don't have that down) i go two types of answers (you don't have to read them, but it would help):

"Even though it seems strange. Quantum theory perfectly explains the facts as we know them. Let me give you some examples:

1. The periodic chart. Why do atoms group the way they do. (electron orbitals)
2. Chemistry -- all of it.
3. Silicon chips -- how they work.
4. atomic emissions radio waves to Infrared to gamma rays
5. Photo electric effect
6. Solar panels.
7. Big Bang (the immediate aftermath, not the bang itself that's gravity and singularities).

Basically, it explains everything you could possibly imagine -- with the exception of gravity and physicists are still working on how to tie gravity and quantum mechanics together.

The reason that scientists have adopt quantum mechanics is that it made a whole bunch of predictions, some of which seemed quite odd, and they all worked. If the theory fails at some point, they will either abandon or modify it. But until then, quantum mechanics reigns."

"There is a quantum theory called Quantum Electrodynamics [QED for short]. This theory has been tested to an accuracy of 8 decimal places. It is the most accurately tested theory in the whole of physics. The theory describes how light and matter interact with each other. Unbelievably, this theory can be summarised by these three actions
1) An electron has a certain probability to change its location in space.
2) A photon has a certain probability to change its location in space.
3) There is a certain probability that the electron and photon will interact with each other in some way.

These three actions explain the whole of chemistry and by extension the whole of biology and most of physics except gravity and the strong nuclear force."

"Quantum is rubbish and never ever confirmed by observational evidence. Just because math adds up some of the times does not mean the physics behind it is real as well. All quantum theorists run in opposite direction when asked for observational evidence. No picture of photons, no mechanism for wave particle duality. 0d particles defying all rational logic, virtual particles and what not. After nearly 80 years since its inception quantum theorists cannot tell what shape does an electron or a photon have."

my question is why there is controversy and why is your position what it is?
after reading gary's response - does qp not explain the big bang, or do they contradict each other?
