why is there any debate over when to do ab exercise?

how do people go "when do i do ab exercise?" it's very obvious. abs are ridiculously important for protecting your lower back (in addition to the erector spinae and other lower back muscles) so why would you exhaust them then lift or run? it makes absolutely no sense.

how is there a debate out there? it's obvious what the answer is:

abs are the end of your workouts for the day.
okie dokes i see the reasoning... but really is a few more crunches worth laming yourself?

Thats what conventional wisdom says, however you do have more energy if you were going to do abs first, so you could hit them harder. I usually do them at the end of the workout but sometimes just to change up ill do them in the beginning or the middle.
