I have a '98 Honda Civic DX and has a milage of ~100,000. I was driving on the freeway at about ~50mph and I went from D4 to 2 (D2); the engine made a roaring noise; it sounded like it was being overworked and then the 'Check Engine' light came on. I pulled over to see if there was anything noticeable, but couldn't find anything.
Haven't taken it to a mechanic just yet, but eventually will.
There was no other noise besides the engine roaring. Any ideas what it could be?
