Why is the occult so popular with the youth of today?

I blame the media. The occult is glorified and made attractive with films like Harry Potter and Twilight. There are even television shows about witches. I think these forms of media lead to experimentation with the occult, and this gets teens into trouble. I see teens on here ask about spells all the time and it saddens me because they're going down a path that's so dangerous, and most of them aren't even aware of what they're actually doing.

Wow. I feel really bad for your kids.
You think Harry Potter and Twilight is bad?
The Bible is 100 times worse.
I mean, really.
The Bible allows inest, rape, human sacrifices and slavery and you think Harry Potter is bad?
I learned more about life and how to be a good person from Harry Potter than I EVER did from the Bible.
And thats a fact.
Go ahead, blame the media.
You're little Jesus act is alot worse.

*Facepalms* you gotta be kidding me if any thing Harry potter brings you down the right path it teaches you life lessons and the meaning of friendship as for tv i assume your talking about Wizards of wavarly place??? Am i right??? that show is harmless their entertinement I have alot more to say but if i say more i will wind up curssing at your ass

Because people want to believe in the supernatural, think of how fun it would be to just flick your wrist and make an item float about. Just look at god for example. An invisible entity in the sky who exists to serve you through prayer.

I think a big part of the reason that the "occult" has gained popularity is that it is ever changing while christianity is a dead religion. I mean dead as in stagnant and not changing. The mores and morals that christianity teach are so at odds with the rest of the world, that today's youth are looking for something else.

Personally, I don't see anything wrong with it, but then again I'm a witch and have been for years. What I do see as wrong is all the hate, the bile, and the prejudice that is thrown around in the name of your god. Your bible says to love thy neighbor, but only if he believes as you do? That is what people are turning away from. So don't blame the media or the schools or anything else but yourselves.

I agree with you! That is why --when they ask questions about it-- I offer them links to articles expounding the warnings in God's Word, and the dangers of the occult:

I watch ALL of that stuff, yet, I don't feel the need to join up with a cult or sacrifice animals, drink blood, play quidditch, whatever.

Because it's fiction and not a guide to live my life by.

Lots of reasons.

1-- the more we learn about our world, the more people realize the Bible and other religious myths are just stories.

2- there are less superstitions about it. We know now that the occult simply means "hidden" and studying it is no different than studying the mysteries of other religions. There is nothing inherently scary about it. The shroud of mystery & rumor has been lifted.

3- there is more information available to learn about different spiritual beliefs and practices. People are no longer bound to only what they were brought up to believe or what those around them told them. Information is just a click away.

Harry potter & fantasy reallly has nothing to do with it... people looking into that because they want to ride a broom or throw fireballs quickly realize that kind of stuff is fantasy and doesn't exist.

The path these kids on isn't dangerous... just misinformed. They're looking for excitement like in fantasy books, which doesn't exist, even in occult studies. What they run into are a series of highly disciplined studies that require a lot of effort and commitment. Majority of them drop the interest right there when they learn it takes work. The rest begin study and learn different spiritual arts.

The only real threats are their Christian families and neighbors who would attack them for their beliefs.

It's always been kind of popular, Harry Potter is awesome, Twilight sucks, and the questions about spells are by trolls (hopefully).
