Why is the HTML CODE showing in the HTML email?

I am attempting to send HTML for my friends flooring company. I designed a nice HTML email template, and every time I send the email, all that shows up at the destination email address is the HTML code itself. I use Microsoft Expression 3 for my HTML editor if that helps. I tried sending the email in outlook, gmail & on my BlackBerry.
