Sure there's a lot that needs to be done to make some really good changes in our health care system. And many of those things can be agreed upon. But not all the changes proposed are going to be things both sides can agree upon. And there in lies the rub.
Instead of trying to get 1900+ pages of legalize passed that there's not going to be agreement on. Why not break it down into several smaller bills and pass the ones people can agree on and then wrok on the serious differences and discuss options on how compromise can be achieved.
No one in Congress is even going to read 1900+ pages of the current bill Pelosi is offering. And yet they are going to vote on it? Does this really make sense?
Let's take some points and look at them individually.
How hard would it be to say to insurance companies, you have to take people with preexisting conditions.
You can operate across state lines.
If someone you have insured when working for one company changes jobs they are allowed to transfer the policy to their new company.
And let's have tort reform. Mississippi and Missouri enacted tort refrom on a state wide level and have seen costs go way down.
OK I admit it. What I just wrote does have some problems that will need to be elaborated on more. But damn, 1900 pages all in mass? All or nothing? That's not using common sense. Break it down. Some of both sides ideas are great. Some of them need improvement. And some of them suck.
Think of it like buying a new car. You look at it. It's got great gas milage, good interior. But the brakes are a little weak. And the whole trunk is filled with manure. Can you blame someone if they don't want to buy it?
How many times do they have to say I don't want a car with a trunk full of manure before you realize that as long as there's manure in the trunk they aren't going to be happy with the car. That's where many Republicans and other conservatives are. Why should they have to buy a car with manure in the trunk. I don't care how much Fabreeze you spray in the trunk it won't matter.
