Why is the fact Obama has bought a puppy making headline news for 2 days?

This fawning over the US is really annoying now.
Incognito - they're not showing that aspect in the UK. The media portrays it as he promised his daughter a puppy if he got elected, and he's keeping his promise. Therefore he's a great president and the puppy's really cute etc etc.

It's sickening really!
keen2ts - no I don't make it my business to know what Obama's doing. I turn on the news and he's on the headlines. I'm not interested in his home life at all.
 
Here in the US what I think is happening is that the papers are doing all this reporting on the puppy so they don't have to report on what is really going on in Washington DC. Seems like every time there is a big to-do over something minor like this another spending bill gets passed without a word about it in the papers.
 
ya its sad like when they had what the obamas are eating for dinner like i dont care if they have a barbaque kool but i didnt get no invite so i dont care
 
The reporters don't want to tell the nation what is really going on and they can't just leave the pages blank so they put pictures of a cute little puppy on the front page to keep the citizens occupied.
 
....because Jade couldn't buy a puppy.... now that would have captivated people for months
 
They did the same thing with the Bushes. They do the same thing with every President. I wasn't interested in hearing about the Bushes but for 8 years we all had to suffer with that.
 
I heard it has an illness and only has six weeks to live.

(Rumour unconfirmed, but the particular traveling salesman who told us this is often correct in his assertions.)

Because newspapers and TV will report on ANYTHING just to fill space !

Personally I couldn't give a damn if the president of yankeeville bought a puppy (or anything else for that matter !) There are FAR more important things happening on the planet than that !

why should the whole country care that he got a puppy? its nothing special or unusual. i have two dogs and im not making the front page!
there are a million things we could be investing our time in, and giving everyone a play by play of obama's daily life shouldnt be one of them.
 
Primarily because he got this puppy from a breeder instead of adopting one from a shelter. Millions of healthy dogs are waiting for adoption in shelters across the United States. Over 3 million of these dogs and cats are put to death every single year...
 
There is absolutely NO other soft news going right now. For Pete's sake, someone make a 50 foot basket or something! Isn't it frog mating season?? Anything!
