Why is the education system of america so flawed?

I really hate two things in the education system. That so many colleges require a foreign-language class. First of all, America's main language is English. If someone else doesn't speak it, they should learn it, not the other way around. Also, learning in a classroom is much harder than learning immersion is the best way to learn. No one knows how to speak spanish after taking it for two years in high school (the requirement for most colleges). And most people that take the classes don't become fluent (ex. myself, most of my family, many people in America).

The other problem I see, is all of the left-wing lawmakers wanting to extend the school year. There's schools in the city that do have problems that could be fixed by a longer school year. But most teachers aren't going to teach more, just teach it slower. What happens to all of the kids who were getting A's? Do they just get lazier? I get straight A's and never study, you can't say that the teacher's need a longer school year. Have them focus more on teaching then they do on homework and studying. My school has no AP classes. Everybody goes to the same classes, excluding math. So I'm in the same class as the people who are in the same math class I was in two years ago and have a GPA two points lower than me.

Anybody have any ideas how to fix it?
