Why is the 2.8ghz imac referred to as having a core 2 extreme processor.?

I'm really annoyed by this lol....why do ppl keep referring to it as the core 2 extreme...its a frikken core 2 duo...even the 3.06 ghz model is a core 2 duo...like wtf....
