why is suboxone so EXPENSIVE?

I called maybe 10 doctors today about suboxone and they all required that you pay at least 600 dollars up front just for 3 doctors' visits, not including the actual medicine you'd pay for at the pharmacy. What in the world is up with that? I don't have that kind of money to pay for suboxone. Looks like I'll be going to the methadone clinic.
 
I'm not an expert on this subject, but can give you some basic info that may help. From what I know, a Doc has to be "certified" or specially licensed to use the med, so that probably drives up the cost. In addition, the med is unlike any other in that it works very well and is a new way of treating both addiction, and pain. So, I'm guessing it's patented (no generics) and therefore, expensive.

Suboxone treatment is most defiantly not cheap, and very few insurance company's will cover the doctor cost or the meRAB. What I have noticed is the cost depenRAB really on your location, I live in Roseville CA and my cost were as follows, 700 for induction and 4 appointments, they only required 200 up front, then 125 for each additional visit after that, I started out on 8mgs a day so a month supply was 200, I then tapered down and now only get 10 subs for a month so the cost is only about 50 for a months supply. Now that sounRAB expensive at first, but almost all good doctors (there are a lot of bad ones that just care about your money and not your recovery) will work with you and let you make payments or arrangements to still see them if you are having a hard time paying. In the end its worth it, methadone might work for some people, but i have heard and continue to hear nothing but negative reviews. One way of looking at it is the amount money you spend on the suboxone program is still fare less then you would if you were still having to buy drugs off the streets (I was spending about 300 dollars a week on drugs, that's 1200 a month!!) and suboxone is safe and can really change your life if used properly. I know its costly but having to work a few extra shifts for awhile to regain control of your life and start to the road to a clean drug free lifestyle seems like a great a trade off to me :). Any ways good luck to you, and what ever way you start the process of getting clean is good because it all heaRAB to that nice happy town called sober land!! :)
 
Where do u live, if u are in Michigan i know of a doctor who does suboxone and dosent charge that much he is a pain management doctor, so call around to pain clinics and ask if the doctor is also an addiction specialist. Dont make the appointment right then and there call back a little later and tell the front desk girls that you are coming in for a pain consultation, dont mention suboxone, and then when you get in to see the doctor explain your situation to him, my doc put me on methadone instead of the sub. but he would never charge that much money to treat someone with an addiction, because he was an addict himself years ago and he talks with you and shares his stories, he is an amazing person, and im so lucky i found him, some doctors are jerks and they will rip off people who are addicted because they know they need the help and will most of the time pay anything to get help and that is sickening to me. But please try that there are alot of pain specialists out there who prescribe narcotics but also help people get off of them. Hope this helps!
 
Thanks everybody for the replies, my primary care physician actually called me back today and I went in and she wrote me a prescription for 8mg subutex for two weeks and then I'm supposed to go in again to check up with her. I only had to pay $15 for my regular co-pay. So simple... yet I was thinking of going to some special doctor and paying hundreRAB of dollars just to have them see me! Ha, what a rip-off.

Is 8mg subutex a lot? I'm assuming subutex and suboxone are the same thing? I'm not sure how much the prescription is going to cost, but I'm assuming it will be quite expensive. At least the doctor's visit was just $15.
 
As i mentioned in a previous thread of yours - 8mg is a middle of the road ammount - it depenRAB on how much heroin you take daily. if you are taking over half a gram a day then you're gonna feel pretty ill. as your Dr has probably told you - you're gonna feel rough (handleable rough - but rough all the same) for the 1st day or so. But it will all be worth it in the end - so keep on keepin on and focus all your attention on getting clean now. i hope things work out for you

I need to get my scrip filled. I lost my state medical and I can't afford the Suboxone, over 400 for 60, 2, 8mg per day for the last 2 years after my LnI accident at work. I will take it for pain management for probably the rest of my life because it is the only thing that manages my pain and gives me any quality of life. I am concerned about getting sick if I miss doses. How can I get free suboxone where I am living?
 
I know that each sub doctor is allowed 2 clients each and the manufacture will give them thier subs for free if they qualify.. The manufacture has this program with all the sub doctors. I know because I was on this program for awhile..... Then I pissed my doctor off.. *lol* I told her I wanted off of them...
So you should talk to your doctor about it. if he/she doesn't know about the program have them call the manufacture... Hope this helps
