Why is red wine better than beer ?

I heard before that drinking alcohol raises blood pressure. Then I heard at another time that red wine is good for you. They(red wine) have properties that are good for the heart or something. But then I ask myself, aren't red wine and beer both are alcohols. What makes red wine good for you, which property ? and what's the negative side of red wine if any, (other than getting drunk) ?
