Why is patriotism always ostentatious?

I have heard many patriots claim that England is a christian country. But did not Jesus himself teach that greater rewards await those that do good deeds in secret?

"The Kingdom of Heaven is within you." Not in the sky.

It is not always ostentatious. There are quarter of a million patriots in uniform serving quietly every day, it is the jingoists who shout loudly. The quiet patriotism passes unnoticed.

I don't know, but I'm tired of religions claiming nations as their own. As far as I know, Vatican City is the only Christian nation technically speaking. It's very insulting when I hear people say that America is a Christian nation. I live in America, I pay taxes, I and many others are not Christian, so how can they claim it? I guess the same line is tossed around in the UK too. Unfortunate. My impression was that religion had less of a stranglehold in modern Europe.

England is not a Christian country

Less than half of the British people believe in a God and the latest British Social Attitudes results saw over 50% say they're not religious...

Europe is far less religious than the US or the Middle East, so whoever claims Britain is 'Christian' is just telling fibs.

England is a christian country because the majority of people that live there are christians and has been for centuries. It is also diverse in religion denominations and allows people to practise their own chosen religion.

Many people do, do good deeds in secret, a very generous people, but where does it say that in the bible?

I have thought about your question fom every angle I can think of and I can't see anything wrong with people saying that England is a christian country, because it is.
