Why is Obama being so fiercely criticized for the words of someone other than himself?

When was the last time that you heard of that happening? And, what do you believe is the actual reason this is now happening?
Oh so now we judge someone based upon the words of their priest or reverend? Does that make any sense?

He has sat in that church for 20 years and has listened to the Rev. Wright spew words of hate. If he did not believe those words why would he sit in that church for 20 years and listen to it? I wouldn't.

I think its completely valid. Its not like the man who said those things was just a friend of Obama--it was the man that Obama looks to for spiritual guidance. When you stand behind a religious figure, you're standing behind the beliefs that person projects. In this case, he aligned himself with the wrong (and very racist) person.

You're just not getting it: if he's showing support for this man, by being in his congregation, then he's showing his support for what the man believes. After all, preachers teach beliefs. Its not what the man said, its that Obama showed his support for him anyway, he aligns his beliefs with this man, and this man believes in being racist. What part of that don't you understand? Get over it.
