Why is my vagina so sore after sex?

It's all read like towards the bottom of it like around the opening. It got like that after I had sex with my boyfriend. The next day we had sex it still hurt and felt sore. Why is this?
I don't think I needed lube though, it actually felt really good and i was naturally lubricated...it was just really sore afterwards and in the morning and next time we tried sex again
