why is my tax refund lower this year?

just wondering why my federal refund is a lot lower this year than it was last. last year i got back around 680 dollars and this year im getting $235. and the only thing that changed was i collected $1,290 in unemployment. but taxes were taken out. would that have caused the lower refund this year?
