My jeep started sputtering after a 5 hour trip home, but not until after i had parked and tried to drive again. the sputtering stopped and the engine light came on. then today the gen light cam on two weeks later. i stalled the car at a light and cut it back on. the lights had gone off but the sputtering started. there is sputtering without the lights but none with them. strange. at advance auto the diagnostics machine said an oxygen sensor was bad but i was under the impression this only messed up gas milage. the lights come on , no sputtering, they go off and then there is sputtering. this has happened twice. can anyone give me an idea of what this is before i go drop an ungodly amount of money to repair?
