the ich is caused due to bad water conditions(hav u cycled ur tank?).u should use the medicine as per the instruction on the label.please do not overdose!do a partial water change every day(or alternative days) still the white spots completely cures.dont empty the water completely to clean ur tank.if u want to clean ur stones and gravel then store a little of the water from the tank saperately and after cleaning the tank pour back that water.whats the size of ur tank and how many fish do you have?a minimum of 10gallons is required for a guppy.overcrowding also leads to bad water condition.get well soon!!!!!!!!!

The most common reason for ick is temperature change. If you can possibly keep the temperature consistant within 3-5 deg that would help alot. The best medication for ick is called quick cure and it is blue, but should only be used in 1/2 doses for guppies, neon tetras or other fish with smaller scales. It also sounds like the constant water changes could also be causing added stress and should be cut down to 1/4 of the water changed about twice a week. When trying to eliminate ick I would recommend quick cure, 1/2 doses of what the label recommends, take out any filter cart, raise temp to 75 deg, add aquarium salt and turn off the light. Check the tail and fins for what may look look like ragged edges, if you see this, instead of just white spots, you may be dealing with a fungus which requires a medication for fungus, but either way, throw away any cartridges used in your filter and don't replace them until you are finished with any medication, they are carrying the disease and will reinfest your fish, so replace with new ones.

my guppies are somehow dying now these days.......they are having white spots on them....i dont know how to care for them....i really need help on what to do....i have lost half well more than half of my guppies....and the babies....

I also bought Ick medicine for my guppies.... i bought it from wal-mart its blue and round...i had tried that for freakin 5, 6 times and my fishes still dies....well help me PLEASEE.....

what size tank do you have? do you have a filter heater ect. plants for them to hide?
you cannot clean the entire tank as this will remove all the good bacteria or the filter and never ever use soap! you can do weekly water changes of 25%. use the ich medicine for 5-6 days as the ich parasite can only be killed when they arent on the fish
if you have anymore questions you can email me at [email protected]

The water changes won't help. The water in the tank is now infected with ick. The best solution would be to set up a new tank and use your current tank as a "sick" tank and treat them in it until the spots go away. Once they have been cured, then switch them over to the new tank.

If you can't do a new tank, just keep treating them until it's gone, then do a considerable water change. Then do another one a week later. Sadly, you may not be able to save them though.

The best stuff I have used is a yellow power...I can't remember the actual name of it, but it's made by "Jungle" and has a red label. It will turn the water yellow, but it is the best stuff I have used. It has saved my bettas numerous times. You can get it from most pet stores and fish specialty stores.

Ich is a sign of poor water conditions. Your tank should have a filter. If your tank is overstocked this too can be a cause of ich. The best thing you could do is use a water heater to heat the water to about 80 degrees farenheit or 27 degrees Celsius. Add the medicine but NOT TOO MUCH. if you put too much too often then you will have an unhealthy build up of coppers in your water. You should do a partial water change every couple of days. If you have a filter remove the carbon from it because it will remove the medicine. the last thing you could do is add some aquarium, not table, salt into your tank. about 1 tablespoon per 10 gallons should be fine. Remember the only time ich is vunerable to treatment is when the parasites are free floating in your water and not in your fish. Heat speeds up this process so it is very difficult to get rid of this problem without a water heater.
