I bought a ryukin goldfish almost two weeks ago at PetSmart. I'm using my sister's old 10 gallon tank, and I don't have any filter, heater, or light going. It's pretty much a box of water - don't hate!
Dwight Schrute (yes, that's his name) seemed fine for the first few days, but lately he seems to spend his free time just laying on the bottom of the tank next to his pink coral with his fins clenched up. He swims around if I wave at him, and he eats just fine, but when I walk into the room after being away, there he is, having a snooze on the bottom. I've read this can be caused by little light. The only light he gets is room light, and the light is only on when I'm in the room, and after I wake him up he seems fine. I've also heard that this can be swimbladder or bloat.
Should I start by getting a light in the tank before trying to treat it as a disease, or does this sound like something 'medical'?
