why is my ex so mean and why do i act different when i talk to him?

im only a freshman and he is a sophmore and he use to tell me all the time he loved me. then he will tell me im a waste of his time bc i wouldnt give him sex. and he went behind my back and had sex with some chick that has had sex like a million times thats in his grade and goes around telling everybody at school he had sex with her. he said he didnt even care about her that he wanted me to be him first. when he has already lost his virginity so it doesnt mean anything anymore!!!! he use to tell me i cant talk to this person bc he doesnt like them when they might be my friend!! he told me he would hit me and he wanted to beat me up!! he cussed me out all the time! he even sent me a 6 page long message saying how that came from the bottom of his heart but he got mad bc i have a boyfriend. and my bf now is soo much better thn any other dude if dated!! he is so sweet! so anyway last week he got hit in the face with a bat and i felt bad so i texted him and told him " i know u hate me but i hope you feel better! i love ya. bye" he cusses me out and tells me im stupid and he doesnt like me but a few days ago he said he loved me? what do i do?
