Why is my cellphone not working?

I own a Metro PCS Samsung Galaxy Indulge 4g Android cellphone. I don't hear the phone ring when I get a phone call, email alerts and so on. I can't even listen to the music on my phone. I cannot use the speaker phone to talk to someone or listen to voice mail messages. I went to the store where I bought the phone and told them the problem. They said that it was the volume on the phone. Whatever! So I really don't know what to do, help here.
 
try to recall if you dropped it or damaged it. Play around with the audio settings, it could be on silent or just the volume is down. if you can't listen to music, try checking your headphone input piece. (though i dont think thats the problem)
