Why is my boyfriend so upset towards the end of AIT in the army?

He is in his last week and he keeps texting me about how he has no idea where his life is going (he is in the National Guard, not active duty) and how his perspective on everything has changed and that all he wants to do when he gets home is sit in his room alone. He is so sad and I don't know what to do for him. :/

If he's in the NG, then his life is going right back onto the couch when he gets out of AIT.

These are the kind of decisions and thoughts he should have processed before he enlisted.Tell him to pull his head out of his a**, man up, and do his job without whining about it the whole damn time.

Does he have a job? I am on active duty orders and I am in the reserve.. my orders are about up and I am not looking forward to it. I do not have a job and I will miss the paycheck.

Being in a reserve component(NG/reserve) AND on active duty orders makes you want to be active duty Army. You feel like everyone else is moving on with their military life and you have to go back home. Don't worry he will quickly snap out of it when he gets home. He will soon never imagine being active Army, he will not look forward to his monthly drills.
