Why is my a/c causing my Jeep to smoke under the hood on the left side?

My car started to smoke while I had the AC on. It drives fine and does not smoke when the AC is on. I recently got a new radiator and thermostat so I dont think it is that. When it smokes it makes a sound. When I turned the AC on low for about a minute nothing happened but when I turned it on high it immediately started smoking. What could it be?
