The rough idle varies - at times the car feels smooth and other times it ca-chunks (misfires) hard, repeatedly. It dies randomly as well; at stop lights and while doing 60+ on the freeway. My check engine light comes on with codes; 12 (direct battery input to PCM was disconnected within the last 50 key-on cycles), 43 (multiple/single cylinder misfire) and 55 (end code). I've replaced countless parts trying to track down the cause; alternator, spark plugs, plug wires, coil pack, cam sensor, fuel filter, fuel pump and, to try and clean up some oil leaks, I replaced my valve cover gasket.
Any ideas would be really appriciated!
It is a manual '95 Dodge Neon with the 2.0 litre SOHC engine.
I've owned the vehicle for 6 years or so. I purchased it used with 135,000 miles on it. It's now at around 190,000. I have had troubles with it since the begining. I had to replace the ECM at one point and also a faulty sensor that was controlling the radiator fan (the fan would continue to run after the engine was shut off until it fully drained my battery).
Also, though I don't think that it would cause said problems, I did replace the intake with an aluminum pipe and K+N air filter. (I was having quite a lot of trouble getting the filter out of the stock air box and back in). It did up the response of the vehicle as well (made it a little more peppy), which was a nice bonus.
