why is my 2003 Jeep Liberty locking up completely?

i put my car in reverse today and when i went to switch to drive the gear wouldnt move and the brakes locked along with the steering and the key couldnt be moved and on top of all that my car was violently shaking ... i waited a moment and pumped the brakes a bit and was able to shut the car off and restart it ...

im scared now to even drive my car again for fear this will happen again

what could be wrong?
 
Well mine had a leak & the idiots at Chrysler maintenance could not identify it until it locked into gear and was out of warranty . ( then , duh , it was the transmission fluid )

I had to constantly keep adding tx fluid or pay about $2G out of pocket for the fix .

Jeeps are Not the reliable things they were originally .
Chrysler totally made them lemons .
