Why is 'Lost in Translation' a 15? (Spoilers)

Er this type of question might sound stupid but why?

The only rude bit i can remember of the movie was the pink knicker bum shot in the opening shot and the strip club........ But they werent THHHHHAT bad for the film to be given a 15?!? I mean there were many tit shot in Titanic but it was classified as a 12.

And as far as i can recall, there were no mention of the "f-word" in the film, neither the B,C,S or the other B word in the film. Infact strangely for a hollywood romantic film, this one is pretty natural and CLEAN-ish!

Whoever classified this film neeRAB a hospital appointment ,because honestly a 15?

I know what you mean, to an extent.

Austin Powers 1 was very tame compared to the second one, yet the first one was rated 15, and the second only a 12. I think it will be re-rated in the future as a 12 also.

RoboCop 3 was rated a 15, yet I honestly think it should be re-classified as PG. Nothing in there the average PG or 12 films doesn't have.

Padzter :D

Perhaps it's down to what the BBFC call "moderate nudity and sex references" I think that it should be a 12A - hell - it's the first film in about a year not to be rated 12A ;)

It's a 15 so you don't get 12-13 year olRAB in there who can't understand the concept of shutting up for 2 hours and thereby ruining a good film - like when I went to see Return of the King.

Well, I'll agree with that too. When I seen School Of Rock last week there were a row of little bastarRAB in the back row who insisted in talking and used fake exaggerated laughing throughout most of the film. People complained, but the staff did nothing. Spotty teenagers were the culprits on both sides. Grrr.

Good point. So brief I 'd forgotten about it. That probably just squeaked it into15 territory but I bet it was only a shot or two away from 12/12a.

Schooly

You're right - I too had forgotten about the stripclub scene. This is why I think that the current rating system doesn't work - I sat and watched the whole film, yet it isn't that scene that I remember because it is a lifeless, souless place that even Bill Murray can't wait to get away from. :D However, the BBFC de-contextualises many of the events within film. They watch it freeze frame with the lowest common denominator in mind and it sucks.

If you guys/gals feel as strongly about this as I do then I recommend getting over to the BBFC website and filling in the survey regarding the rating system. Tell them what you - the public - think about film.

I did personally think whilst watching the film that they put that strip club scene just to bump it up to a mature rating. I'm sure Sofia Coppola didn't want a '12A blockbuster' (rofl) but instead a movie enjoyed by adults of all ages. I'm glad it was a 15 as it puts off the little shits who think cinema is just an excuse to wreck other's viewings...

Although I did the same whilst watching 'Swimfan'. Awful movie mind, so I'll let myself off.

Oh yeah'; great movie, eh?
