Why is leaning a dominant behavior?

I can agree that it is as I've witnessed only dominant dogs doing it, but nothing I read explains why. What is it about leaning that says the dog is trying to dominate me? (While I'm petting him for instance.) I just spent some time at a rescue function and held a large lab who was constantly leaning on me. I learned later he was a dominant personality. Apparently the leaning should have been a clue, but I had no idea. My own dog is a more dominant personality and he doesn't lean on me (he's dominant with other dogs though. Submissive with people.)

What do you think?
Dobe - cool, I have actually not ever seen a dog lean on another dog. I will watch for that. The privates licking I see a lot. Humping I see a lot. Laying the muzzle on another dog's neck, I see a lot. I will watch for the leaning too and see if I can see it.

I thought maybe the big lab was possessing me, but why on earth would a dog try to possess a human? I guess the same way a dog would try to dominate one, but ah well. The dog's mind is vast isn't it. LOL

(sorry I forgot everyone's names)

You reminded me that my dog does actually lean on my knee when I'm putting on my shoes and he's so excited to go for a walk. How could I forget that.

Maybe it isn't always about dominance then if your husky leans on you in that situation. hmmm.

(Personally I think a lot of people learn such and such behavior means dominance and then anytime they see a dog doing it it's automatically dominant. Well it could mean anything and we have to look at the circumstances. But that's just me)
