I didn't know it was.

I wouldn't recommend adding a new fish to a tank of existing fish. They will attack the newcomer and kill it.

One of our 9 fish recently died (R.I.P Miss Twinkle) and we have 8 and will be getting another one soon. Why is it unlucky to keep an even number of fish? I would've thought it would've been unlucky to keep an odd amount.

Just asking :]

Never heard of this because in a pet store they normally say to get 3 females for 1 male= 4 even. I am intrigued by who told you this

Never new it was unlucky. Maybe its because I base tank stocking and numbers of fish on that species' needs not how many I can shoehorn into a tank to look "pretty" or be lucky/unlucky.

Don't think it comes under the heading unlucky, but in Fen Shui it has to be an odd number to balance the rooms vibes.

Can't say I'm about to start counting fry incase the ceiling should fall in though :o)

I am a chinese, we chinese like even numbers, not odd, as even number present pair, its better, i think your fish just get sick or for some other reason. so its not unlucky to keep fish in even number, :)

I wasn't aware of that and neither apparently were my fish, my 2 oscars live with 6 banded leporinus 2 plecostomus and 2 catfish
