Do they say on the side that they are dishwasher safe? I have victornirox ones and they say they say they are fine for dishwashers on the side, although I dont have a dishwasher ( I am incredibly jealous of you right now lol).
Wow some of you are a bunch of L*S*R*
English class much? Nice punctuation, right right?
Wow I I hope I didn't waste my 5 points on some of your pointless answers. I'm sure boys and girl we can point out which answers are pointless.

Not as good as you thought.
Did the label say dishwasher safe.
If not that should have rung bells.
If expensive go back to store first and manufacturer second,
Take photos.
I yell at my wife if I find my good knives in the dishwasher.
Rather then putting them in the dishwasher, you should just wash them by hand .... but to melt, that doesn't seem right, unless they are right up against the element.
honestly how are you going to post such an open question for anyone in the yahoo world to answer... keeping in mind most children are out of school for the summer and have little to no parental supervision while on the internet... and then reply to it once the question is answered.. some good - some bad... and tell them they are losers... seems quite rude for someone who needs to figure out why good knives are melting in the dishwasher...
I think the extraordinarily long time spent on typing the word loser with asterisks strategically placed gives an idea on who the real loser here is

Metal bladed kitchen knives shouldn't go in the dishwasher as the chemicals in the dishwasher detergent can dull the blades. Also the handles can get damaged by the chemicals and the heat of the drying cycle. The better the knife the more it can be ruined by the dishwasher.
As a good rule of thumb anything you value should be hand washed - including good knives, good glasses etc.
