why is it so weird for some people to continue talking after a break up?

my ex is like my best friend but i know a bunch of people who hate each other because a break up... why?
i think it's ignorant to not at least try tolerating an ex unless they have severly wronged you (like physical or 'mental' abuse) because it leaves unresolved issues and also makes people bitter by what i've seen
 
because they haveanger because they got hurt in some way and they dont want to be tempted to go back with someone who really hurt them
 
Beats me...I talk to my exs all the time probably cos we have stuff in commen and dont have emotional attachment (which means we couldnt care less about the crimes the ex may have commited in the relationship) I even talk to exs who have cheated on me.
I guess some people are still raw for a long time after a break up. The opposite of love is indifference, not hate :)
