Why is Hamlet's madness debated? Isn't it obvious that Hamlet is pretending?

I mean he seems to slip in and out of his madness and even at times states that he will be mad, showing that it is a disguise. So can someone tell me what the evidence is that Hamlet may be genuinely mad?
