Why is found so very bland and tasteless in the pale white northern European countries?

In the south of Europe they have very good cuisine in Italy and Greece. But as you go further north the food becomes tasteless and in these countries the people are very pale like ghosts. Is there a correlation between a lack of flavor in food and a lack of skin pigmentation? Or do pale white people just have very bad taste buds?
