In 'The Catcher in the Rye,' Holden remembers D.B. asking Allie who was the best war poet, Rupert Brooke or Emily Dickinson. Allie answered Emily Dickinson.

Why does he choose her? Is it because D.B. asked the question after Allie asked him "wasn't it sort of good that he was in the war because he was a writer and it gave him a lot to write about and all"? So, D.B.'s trying to make the point that Dickinson is a better war poet than Brooke, even though Brooke was in a war and Dickinson wasn't?

Also, is there any place that will give the year Dickinson wrote a poem in? I found one for Brooke, but not for her.

I know, I know, it's not the most significant part of the book. I was just wondering because I've never heard of Brooke before and I like Emily Dickinson :)
