why is eating dog meat disgusting?

i personally find it foul and cruel, just because i LOVE dogs and i couldnt possibly eat one. i do believe that because they are domesticated and live alongside so closely to our own lives, we grow a special bond to them that we wouldnt have with perhaps a chicken and this further prevents us from eating them. In reality, dog meat is no different to any other meat so is it wrong if we do eat it? I have relatives in China who eat dog that was once their pet and i could vomit at the sight of that but nothing i say could ever persuade them to stop
