...said it was immigration? Canvassers reports, some from senior politicians and even in the street when a woman was called "a bigot" by Brown, the message was "time and time again" immigration was the problem. Even though Labour had good marks for governing the economy
The ICM survey for The Sunday Telegraph .
The poll also showed that three voters out of four believe immigration is a significant problem for Britain. After Gordon Brown's description of a voter who raised concerns about immigration from eastern Europe as "bigoted", the issue is seen as the second most important in the campaign behind the economy. ...
Some 15 per cent of voters asked by ICM to name the most important issue in the campaign chose immigration. It trailed only the economy (32 per cent) and was ahead of the NHS (14 per cent), education (10 per cent), tax and public services (nine per cent), and crime (four per cent). In addition, 37 per cent of voters said immigration was a "big problem" in Britain today, while 38 per cent said it was "quite a big problem".
