A beach cruiser is Not less of a workout than a regular bike. They are generally single speed bikes and require more effort to climb hills because of the ss factor (if you climb hills) otherwise they are made for flat surfaces and neighborhood ridding and not hills. You ride a bike where you want to and what ever bike you want too and you put as much effort into that ride as you want too. If I were on a 3 speed cruiser and you on a 21 speed anything else I just might take you in a race because I am a more experienced and conditioned rider than you. (or you might just take me) but that is how it works. Cycling does more for the lower body (below the waist) than it does above it unless its BMX or mountain biking where you are required to pull up on the handlebars more often than a cruiser would demand
