Why I'm not going to rush out and get the iPhone...

I've compiled a list of reasons why I'm not so sure if the iPhone is for me.. you may perhaps feel the same way. I listed them here:

As has been discussed in may threads:

At $499 and $599 with a new 2yr contract, why doesn't this thing have 3G?

The Treo 750 is available now at $399-499 and has 3G. It also plays mp3's and windows media files. By June, I'm sure the price will drop some as it replaces the Treo 650.

IMHO, I just can't see spending this type of money on a device that doesn't have the latest (3G UMTS). I realize the blackjack doesn't compare stylewise with this, but at least it's less than $250!!

Not only should it have 3G UMTS, it should have 3.5G HSDPA too, since there is HSDPA coverage in existence already. Canada has it. I assume some US centres must too.

I think HSDPA is a miss also. That being said the addition of wi-fi helps lessen that miss.

But also, let's be fair, it is their first device.

1. The size is just too big. Thin is good, but the length and width are too big. Even Motorola learned their lesson and made their KRZR narrower than the RAZR.
2. that nice glass screen looks good, but not when you have finger smudges all over it. I used to wipe the chrome on my ipod every 5 minutes. That gets old very quick.
3. touch screen can be fragile- let's see how long this thing lasts in the real world.

you make some interesting points, but I disagree with you on this one. dual mode quadbad gsm/triband hsdpa radios are out there (htc tytn, 8525, treo750, several pc cards also) and if omiting 3g should bring the cost down, why is 6the device so expensive? Maybe they were too worried about what 3g would do to their non removable battery, but maybe the device should've been 3mm thicker with a bigger, removable battery and a multiband 3g radio. let's face it here, despite an awkwardly different design, you'll be paying for the name more than anything else
