People are saying ''First you need to control bleeding and wrap with a compression bandage or gauze with a pad''. First of all, a gunshot wound is a velocity trauma, which means you should check for an exit wound. You've got to stop air from entering the entry wound. You get a plastic, put directly ontop of the wound and tap 3 sides (the top + 2 sides) but NOT the bottom. You do not elevate the legs for shock. Rugging up is essential. You must do the exact same for the exit wound. Lots people say you have apply presuure with a sterile pad and then a gauze. It's wrong. Don't do that.
@ Diane- If they are going to have a pressure pad and compression bandage, I'm pretty sure they will get it out of a First Aid kit. Getting a plastic is not hard, it's inside the kit, such as a bag for disposing swabs and wound wipes, just rip it off? (Make sure it hasn't been used though!)
