Why government vouchers for buying Nissan cars?

So if we are all now part owners of GM why should the government (us) be giving vouchers for big discounts on foreign cars ? I realize its cash for gas guzzler trade ins but isn't it cutting our own throats to give Nissan and others our money when we have a huge stake in GM?

i would agree, but this is something gm should have stuck with. Building better economical cars, they should have learned that lesson in the 70's when the first japanese cars started showing up. I would be a greater supporter of gm but they are a greedy corp. Look at what they did in california, we once had a good public transportation system, but gm came in bought them up and ripped up all their tracks. So they know exactly what they are doing. everyone got stung once they lent out more credit then money to pay it.

Because Nissan, as well as Honda, Toyota, Hyundai and other foreign makes employ Americans. Both in factories building them and dealerships selling & repairing them. Plus the extra tax revenue will help the states.

And not everyone will buy an import, many will buy from the Big 3.
