Why don't today's Conservatives know Abraham Lincoln was Liberal?

I can see you don't know history and that a shame because if you did you would know better there liberal. You really should up date your current political knowledge too.
 
Abraham Lincoln was a Yankee that was against Southern States Rights.

100 years ago Republicans were Northern Yankees and Democrats were Southern States Rights but the 2 parties switched over ideologies after Richard Nixon's Southern Strategy in the 1960's that's why today 90% of Southern White Voters are Republican today.

THERE'S A HUGE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN IDEOLOGY AND POLITICAL PARTY.
 
Because a liberal in 1860 has nothing whatsoever in common with a modern day liberal from 1960-present.

Todays modern liberal would repulse Lincoln so much, he would have nothing to do with them.

Try talking about gay marriage with Lincoln and see what he thinks.
Try talking about a free ride on the state's back for life

If Lincoln saw what would become of blacks in America, he would have stopped the war immediately and began deportation of all blacks from America immediately.

2) Keeping black people dependent.
3) Having KKK members leading the party.
4) Called, "Democrat".

Sorry, that's my party, "Democrats".

If we want to TRULY switch gears:

1) Set black people free to be in EITHER party, and don't go after black people as "Uncle Toms" or otherwise treat them badly just because they are in other parties.
2) End welfare as we know it. It doesn't work.
3) Remove the last vestiges of Southern racists from our midst.
4) Kick out the socialists from our party (especially the "Democratic Socialists Party of America" members, like Pelosi, Franks, and more than a hundred others who are using our party for their new agenda rather than freedom and equality).

Until then, I'll keep kicking us in the shins until we get the idea that we can't lay claim to the "swtich" idea until we ACTUALLY LIVE UP TO IT.
 
The parties definitely reversed. I am annoyed when Republicans talk about it being the party of Lincoln. He was the first Republican president but he was not a modern day Republican. He didn't pretend to be religious, either.

I am not a conservative, but it's pretty common knowledge that most slave owners, KKK members, and those for segregation were conservative Democrats.

Democrats switched to the Republican Party after Johnson signed the civil rights act of 1964.

He said "we've lost the South for a generation", and right he was.
 
That would explain him curtailing freedom in his illegal war of aggression on the Southern Confederacy. I wake up every day and wish the South had gained it's freedom.

Nobody in their right mind could attempt to guess what Lincoln, Jefferson or whoever would say if they saw the country today

False. Most Democrats stayed within the Democrat fold. The Republican party was mostly in favor of Johnsons civil rights act and helped him to get it passed. The Democrats didnt lose the south until 30 years later which wasnt because of race or the civil rights act.
 
We blacks put Lincoln on too high of a pedestal. He also supported legislation to send all black people back to Africa because he did not think we could assimilate into this country. The civil war was not fought to end slavery.
 
Today's conservative see it almost as a "Badge of Pride" to not know things and to be oblivious to 'little details' like the one you so eloquently point out!

Their personal pride and confidence that "we're right, you're wrong!" makes them very much a modern version of the brief-lived 'Know-Nothing Party' of the 1850s;
