Why don't the maps on Google show on my Samsung R355C 'Straight Talk' phone?

When I go to google.com on my 'Straight Talk' cell and search for an address, no map comes up. Instead i get a 5cm square box with a black border that's empty where the map should be

But if I use Mapquest then a map shows up fine.

Can you please give me a technical explanation why this happens ?
