Why don't some original X-Box games play on the X-Box 360 - shouldn't the new system...

...be backwards compatible Munch's Oddessy (Oddworld) - has no sound
Fable - plays but has a horrible screech sound every once in awhile

They both say on the case that they will work on the X-Box 360.
 
they should all work all of mine do
you might want to check your 360 may get the red ring of death
