Why don't physics equations agree with each other?

Mwahaha :D

One thing that makes physics really difficult for me is that on every other equation, there's a different way to write it. Sometimes my teacher writes it one way, my book another, my AP practice book another, and websites I go to for help yet another. Even if they're all supposed to be equal to each other, when they use different symbols it makes it so much harder to understand (for example, d=rt is the same as v=x/t) -_- I can't tell you how many times I've mixed tension up with torque or time, and it leads to really dumb mistakes.

Why do they do this to us?
