Why don't news shows ever reference the 'study' that says XXX causes cancer?

Have you ever noticed how often news shows always tell us, "A recent study says that if you are fat, then you will get Alzheimer's, etc, etc..."

However, they NEVER reference the study and what journal it is published in.

Hence, more nonsense gets perpetuated to the masses.

First of all the average human is too stupid to do their own research and look up the study, so for most it would just be wasted information anyway. Second the sensationalism of the story dramatically decreases when they start quoting sources and everyone finds out it was a study conducted on ten people. No matter what ludicrous claim someone wants to make, with the right sample of people, they can have the statistics to back it up.

because television is an inappropriate forum for such reference. the idea with tv news is to provide the best bang for the buck. get into fact and people change the channel. if they're interested in this study, they'll go to your website and read the online article associated with your news story.

I came down with cancer last year so I have done plenty of real research. I will never accept what the media has to report in regards to health studies. All the media does is simplify it to the point that it becomes a lie.
