Weird question, but whenever I take a picture of myself, I can't help but be a little put off by how weird I look in it. Why don't my pictures look like what I see in the mirror?! And does everyone else see what I see in the picture or the mirror lol?!
I took the photo of myself
I hold the camera at least one foot away
I don’t use a tripod
I don’t take pictures of my reflection
I never zoom in

Here’s a pic of me taken at these specifications:

Not enough details here.

You took the photo yourself? Or someone took it for you.

Do you hold the camera a foot away from you yourself? Do you mount it on a tripod? Do you take a photo of the reflection in a mirror?

Did you set the zoom at its widest?

Probably is easier for us to examine a photo taken of you by this particular camera so we can comment on it.

Addendum:

It's best if someone took the photo for you. Look at these photos, for example:

The photo above was taken with an ultra wide zoom (Canon 16-35 mm f 2.8 with Canon 5D at 16 mm). It's so wide that I was merely about two feet away from him.

This one was taken with Canon 100 mm f 2.8 Macro lens. I was a few feet away. This lens was designed for close up shot--but it is a very sharp telephoto (albeit a bit "short"), too. So he looks a bit more 'normal' now.

Another subject, same lens:

But honestly I don't think that photo that you showed us looked "weird' in any sense. You may not like the way you look in a photo, and I think most people don't. I hate having photos of myself taken, too. Here is one:

Just have someone else do it. If your camera has a self-timer, set it on something (a tripod, or something that it can't fall off), and see what you can get. It will probably take a few shots to get it right.

For a better pose, rather than a full face shot (mug shot) try a 3/4 face shot. Turn your head until only ear is visible and FOCUS ON THE EYES!

u kno it happens to me all the tym. i think its cuz wen u look at urself in a mirror - i guess u'd say "i look real gud" (but not in a conceited way) but wen u look at urself in a picture its like " jeez i look like crap!"

i guess in the mirror u can see gud u look but pics sort of make u THINK ur not that great (or make u feel ugly - that happens to me) esp. wen frnds see it.

but its no big deal - u can keep them or u culd get rid of them - ur choice.

(btw sorry abt the shorthand writing - no tym & i lyk ur pics)

I don't think so. I see a lot thats like that of me. It sux sometime. I wanted to give my dad who I met the 1st time a pic of me that we took together and when I got the developed I was like what the hell I don;t think I want to give him any of the pic. I ended up finding the best of the bunch and gave it to him. O did I look bad lol.

I agree with Tim Thats exactly what happened to me with the flash.

+ I just took some with my 2 kids With Flash hopefully it comes out right. Because then I can't send any to my family. Including my dad who already has a horrible pic of me

Same thing happens for me! I've noticed that in other people's pictures, they look a bit different than they look in real life too. I guess because we're not looking at them like we do in real life... you know, with two eyes and the right lighting and all... some people look kinda funny with the flash on :)
